This month we’re providing a quick update while we continue to seek a new volunteer to assist with writing our monthly newsletter:
Our Board is in a time of transition, with four newly elected members seated in June (Caitlin Treacy Buttery, Sybille Fischer, George Plumley, and Angela Wagner). Shannon Caracio—who ran in the recent election—was appointed to fill a recent board vacancy. Shannon is already diving in and has stepped up to lead our Events Team. Stay tuned for fun opportunities to gather and grow together!
In July, the Board will elect its Executive Committee: President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.
The Board is actively charting a path forward to open a store sooner, reflecting the strong preferences we heard from you at the Annual Meeting. We’re exploring a smaller-scale storefront that would sell food and goods from local farmers and producers on a consignment basis. Inspired by successful models like the Local Roots Market & Café co-op in Wooster, Ohio, this approach offers a meaningful way to begin fulfilling our mission: providing fresh, local products while supporting our regional food economy. We’re currently refining a business plan and touring potential sites to evaluate feasibility. There’s still much to do, but we’re energized by the momentum—and the incredible community support—behind this effort.
Preparations are underway for forming a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, which will support KCG's capital campaign fundraising efforts.
Just a reminder: Board meetings are open to all Member-Owners and take place on the second Monday of each month from 7:00–8:00 PM at the Kennett Senior Center. The next one is July 14, and we’d love to see you there!
Thanks for your continued engagement—we’ll share more updates soon!
MEMBERSHIP EVER-GROWING
We’re pleased to share that our Member-Owner count has inched up to 475. To help us inspire others to join the movement for fresh, local food, we're asking YOU—our Member-Owners—to share your story of what brought you to Kennett Community Grocer and what you’re most excited about. Please answer a short prompt (or 2) to help us continue to grow! Every new member strengthens our case for funding and helps bring us closer to opening the doors of our future store.
Our Communications Team is seeking creative thinkers to help write this monthly newsletter and crafting engaging social media posts. This team plays a vital role in spreading the word out about KCG and keeping our Member-Owners informed. If you're able to help, please fill out our volunteer interest form, and our friendly Volunteer Coordinator, Sandi Murphy, will be in touch.
