Kennett Community Grocer (KCG) is a community-owned grocery store dedicated to supporting local farmers, strengthening our local economy, and helping Kennett Square thrive. We're building more than a grocery store—we're creating a welcoming place where everyone belongs and where our community can discover incredible products made right here in our region. We value people of all backgrounds, identities, experiences, and perspectives

Joining KCG means helping build something new from the ground up. Every day you'll work alongside local farmers, food makers, and neighbors while creating a place that reflects the best of our community.

If you're excited by meaningful work, supporting local businesses, and making a positive impact close to home, we'd love to hear from you.

Open Roles

  • Full-Time | On-Site

We're looking for an organized, collaborative Produce Manager who is passionate about fresh, local food and excited to lead our produce department.

    What You'll Do

As the KCG Produce Manager, you'll play a central role in shaping our store experience by:

    • Building Farm Partnerships: Communicating regularly with local farmers and suppliers about harvest schedules, seasonal availability, deliveries, and inventory needs.

    • Curating Produce Selection: Sourcing a fresh, seasonal assortment of produce aligned with KCG’s mission, including managing POS product setup, data entry, and pricing accuracy.

    • Managing Inventory & Consignment: Conducting manual inventory counts, setting par levels, and tracking consignment items to ensure local producers are accurately credited.

    • Maintaining Quality & Standards: Establishing daily routines for stocking, stock rotation (FIFO), and display cleanliness to ensure peak freshness from open to close.

    • Creating Engaging Merchandising: Designing visually appealing displays and clear signage that showcase seasonality, local sourcing, and producer stories.

    • Providing Peer Leadership: Guiding shift workflows, delegating daily tasks, providing real-time coaching on store procedures, and ensuring smooth shift hand-offs.

    • Delivering Outstanding Service: Greeting shoppers with warmth, helping customers discover local growers, and fostering a respectful, inclusive environment.

    What We're Looking For

    We're looking for someone who:

    • Brings 2–3 years of experience in produce retail, grocery operations, farming, or visual merchandising, ideally including team leadership or supervisory experience.

    • Has a deep appreciation for small farms, regional agriculture, and community-based retail.

    • Is comfortable with manual inventory control, perishables ordering, and shrink management without automated chain systems.

    • Demonstrates exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.

    • Communicates with kindness, clarity, and transparency with teammates, farmers, and shoppers.

    • Can offer friendly, constructive peer coaching while recognizing operational boundaries (formal disciplinary steps are handled by the Store Manager).

    • Is physically able to lift produce cases (up to 50 lbs) and stand for extended periods during shift receiving and stocking.

    Schedule

    • This is a full-time leadership position requiring schedule flexibility.

    • Shifts may include early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

    • Schedules are created based on employee availability and the operational needs of the store.

    • Because we're a small team, flexibility and reliability are key.

    Store Hours

    • Monday–Saturday: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM

    • Sunday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

    Compensation & Benefits

    • Competitive full-time hourly pay / salary (commensurate with experience)

    • Employee discount

    • Opportunities to work directly with local farms, food makers, and regional producers

    • The opportunity to shape and lead a core department in a community-owned grocery store from the ground up

    Apply for Produce Manager

  • Part-Time | On-Site

We're looking for dependable team members who enjoy helping others and want to be part of building something meaningful.

    What You'll Do

As a KCG Team Member, you'll help create a welcoming shopping experience by:

    • Greeting every customer with warmth and respect.

    • Providing friendly, knowledgeable customer service.

    • Operating the register and handling transactions accurately.

    • Stocking, rotating, and merchandising products.

    • Learning about our local farmers, food makers, and artisans so you can help customers discover their products.

    • Keeping the store clean, organized, and inviting.

    • Helping wherever the team needs you. At KCG, everyone pitches in.

    What We're Looking For

    We're looking for people who:

    • Treat every customer and coworker with kindness, dignity, and respect.

    • Enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds and life experiences.

    • Are dependable, honest, and accountable.

    • Take initiative and notice what needs to be done.

    • Work well as part of a team.

    • Are adaptable and comfortable switching between different tasks throughout the day.

    • Bring a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.

Retail experience is a plus, but not required. We're looking for people with strong character, a great work ethic, and a genuine desire to make others feel welcome.

    Employment Type

    • Part-Time Positions Available

    Schedule

    • Typical shifts are approximately 6 hours.

    • Shifts may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

    • Team members should expect to work at least one weekend day.

    • Schedules are created based on employee availability and the needs of the store.

    • Because we're a small team, flexibility and reliability are important.

    Store Hours

    • Monday–Saturday: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM

    • Sunday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

    Compensation & Benefits

    • Starting pay: $14.00 per hour

    • Shift Lead differential: +$2.00 per hour while serving as a Shift Lead

    • Employee discount

    • Opportunities to learn about local food, farms, and producers

    • The opportunity to help build a new community-owned grocery store from the very beginning
