Monthly updates from your Store Manager, Rachel Sanchez
Earlier this month I had the chance to spend several days at Argus Farm Stop in Ann Arbor, Michigan, observing the store's day-to-day operations. Argus is one of the best examples of a working farm stop model in the country, so it was really valuable to see it in action.
One thing that stood out right away is how much intention they put into their workplace culture. They’ve built a team based on trust, mutual respect, and great service, and you can feel that immediately when you walk in. The staff genuinely seem to enjoy working together, and that energy carries right out onto the floor.

The café area especially had a welcoming hum—the sound of neighbors catching up over coffee, grabbing a meal, perhaps lingering a little longer than they’d planned to. It had that feeling of a true neighborhood “third place,” where you walk in and it just feels familiar. This is exactly the vibe I hope to achieve in the Kennett Community Grocer store.
One of my favorite moments while I was there was realizing I could walk up to almost any shelf and know the product in front of me was made somewhere nearby in Michigan. Jars of jam, fresh bread, cheeses, sauces, vegetables. I kept noticing how many of the products came from farmers and producers just down the road, and that felt really special.

After spending time at Argus, I came home feeling even more excited about what we’re building with Kennett Community Grocer. It made me even more sure that we can create something that supports local producers and gives people a place to gather, connect, and feel at home.
