Monthly updates from your Store Manager, Rachel Sanchez
Over the past few months, I’ve been spending a lot of time building out our network of local producers, and the response has been kind of amazing. We’ve received over 100 applications so far from farmers, food makers, and artisans. Everything from meat, cheese, and produce to pottery, greeting cards, and pet treats.
One of my favorite parts of this work has been getting to know the people behind these businesses and seeing how much care goes into what they produce.
I wanted to highlight one of those producers, Barking Dog Farm, right here in Kennett Square. They were actually the very first farm to apply.
Barking Dog grows food in a way that really reflects care for both the land and the community. They use regenerative practices like cover cropping and organic inputs to build healthy soil and support a more balanced ecosystem, while limiting synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.
They also put a lot of thought into how they care for their animals. Their hens are pasture-raised and able to roam freely, and even after their egg-laying years, they stay on the farm and continue contributing to the land.
Beyond their growing practices, they’re also really committed to community and making good food more accessible.
We’re excited to have them as part of what we’re building, and they’re just one example of the many incredible producers helping bring this store to life.
